Now we can expect more out of our PMPs. Rockchip has launched another Android enabled chip, the RK2816 for portable media players (PMPs). This chip enables users to not only enjoy videos and music like other PMPs, but also access thousands of Android apps available in the market. Supported touchscreen players can thus play sports, animation, multimedia, entertainment, office, and lots of G-rich Sensor games. The chip is powered by 600MHz ARM9 processor and hardware supporting 720p videos and HDMI output.
The version of Android that this will support is not known yet. The chip does not support WiFi, which could be a negative point for the player; however, PMPs with all the functionalities of MP4 players, with the added advantage of Android apps for the same cost, is certainly attractive.
Let’s wait for the PMPs to hit the market.

I hope it suports 720p video playback better than RK2728..(Window G89 etc)
Because 2728 can not play 720p video files smooth…

I have 3 Onda VX580Rs and they play 720 HD video really well. It comes with Android 1.5, but some others now come with 2.1 so I am looking into seeing if I can upgrade it.
I’m very pleased with the units, as are my kids.
